Dalyellup Beach - Local lad a WA Youth Awards Finalist
Dalyellup resident Benjamin Jerez has been recognised for his expertise in Tae Kwon Do, reaching the final of the WA Youth Awards. 13 year-old Ben was the youngest of the six finalists in the Active Achievement category. He was nominated for his role in teaching and coaching Tae Kwon Do to locals and for his personal achievements in the sport at international level. He has also been recognised for his involvement in the Dalyellup Youth Advisory Council and his commitment and involvement in community events and projects. Ben has been Australia’s Sparring champion and won the club’s top award as fairest and best. His large display of trophies and medals include a gold and silver at the Australian Championships. Ben will be competing this July in Korea and Malaysia in the Tae Kwon Do World International tournament. His dream is to represent Australia at the 2012 Olympics in London. Ben’s mother is Stephanie Maynard who is the Satterley Property Group’s South West Community Development Coordinator. “I’m very proud of Ben who enjoys nothing better than coaching others in Tae Kwon Do, which is his passion,” Stephanie said. “He is also one of the most enthusiastic members of the Youth Advisory Council which does so much positive work with young members of our community.”
